Steel Structures and Mobile Units

Steel structures are utilised due to their immense strength combined with their flexibility. Furthermore, steel can bend without cracking. This proves to be an advantage to structures since they can flex when exposed to certain forces, such as wind, without damaging the structure.

It should be noted that steel quickly loses its strength when exposed to high temperatures. At 500° Celsius, mild steel loses nearly 50% of its strength. In fact, this is what occurred with the collapse of the World Trade Centre Towers in 2001. It is therefore important to ensure that steel structures are protected from fires or extreme temperatures.

Steel structures are most often utilised in the construction of high-rise buildings, industrial buildings, warehouses, residential buildings and temporary structures.
